WHAT IS CLEARSKIN – ACNE AND ACNE SCARRING TREATMENT?
Acne can be an embarrassing concern that causes spots and pimples on the surface of the skin. This can be a long-term condition that can affect adults as much as it affects adolescents. Acne that is particularly aggressive can often lead to scarring, which may appear in different forms, giving the complexion an uneven texture and tone.
Clearskin acne and acne scarring treatment can work to reduce the appearance of acne whilst also preventing the frequency and severity of further breakouts. In addition, this treatment can then improve the quality of the skin and reduce the appearance of scarring.
THE TREATMENT PROCESS
The Clearskin device emits wavelengths of blue light which helps to destroy P.acnes bacteria and remove excess sebum on the skin – 2 of the main contributors in the development of acne. The laser also works to stimulate the production of collagen, which builds up in the middle layers of the skin to help fill out any indentations and create a smoother surface.
Each patient has their very own treatment plan, based on their individual concerns and treatment expectations. For optimal results The Facebible often suggests a course of between 6 and 12 treatments, depending on your concerns.
AFTERCARE AND RESULTS
Results are long-lasting, but can vary from person to person. Most of our patients achieve a very satisfactory outcome, and the complexion looks noticeably clearer, brighter and smoother. Laser treatments can make the skin slightly more sensitive than usual, so we would always recommend using a high SPF for a couple of months after treatment to protect the skin from the effects of sun exposure. For the first 6 hours, your skin will also benefit from avoiding hot temperatures, such hot showers / baths and causing hot skin through exercising.

Many people are considered to be suitable for this treatment. However, if during the consultation you are found to have any of the following contraindications, you may not be recommended for this procedure: active skin infections, increased risk of keloid scarring, pregnancy, breastfeeding, are using Roaccutane or are affected by photosensitivity.
Clearskin is part of the Harmony laser treatments and is FDA approved. It is considered to be safe for use on many people with varying skin types. Our doctors are highly trained and experienced medical professionals, and we would only suggest the use of a treatment if the needs of the patient can be met.
As an ablative laser, its technology is designed to heal by way of heating. You are likely to feel this warmth on the skin, but as the temperature will be closely monitored throughout, it is unlikely this will feel too hot and painful. If you start to feel any discomfort during the procedure, your practitioner will adjust the treatment accordingly.
In the hours that follow the treatment, the face may look flushed. This should not be painful and will have disappeared within a day or two. By following the aftercare advice that our practitioners provide, you should be at less risk of developing further complications (although these are rare).
The condition of your skin and your concerns with acne / acne scarring will be thoroughly assessed during the consultation. This will help to determine how many treatment sessions will produce the best possible outcome. This is often between 6 and 12 procedures, carried out every 2 weeks.
