WHAT IS GUMMY SMILE TREATMENT?
Gummy smile treatment addresses the concern a person may have with the amount of gum tissue that is on display when they laugh or smile. This characteristic is determined by a person’s genes, and usually causes concern when more than 2 mm of gum tissue becomes visible. When this condition is treated in an aesthetic clinic, it is the upper lip that is attended to, often because it naturally raises too high – known as a hyperactive lip.
THE TREATMENT PROCESS

The procedure requires injecting botulinum toxin into the muscle on each side of the upper lip. The amount of toxin that is needed, will depend on each individual case, and our practitioners have the expert knowledge to be able to decide on this.
AFTERCARE AND RESULTS
When botulinum toxin is used to improve an aesthetic concern, it works to stop the muscle from over contracting and therefore softens its movement. In the case of a hyperactive top lip, the toxin will stop the lip from elevating over the gums and exposing too much of the tissue. When the results have developed, you will still find that you can laugh, smile and eat normally.
The product will settle into place more effectively if the treatment area is not rubbed or massaged, and hot showers / baths and strenuous exercise is avoided.

Whether a person is unhappy with gum display when they smile is a concern determined by the individual themself. If it is preferred that more of the teeth are on show, then gummy smile treatment may be suitable. The Facebible may be able to help if the condition is related to a hyperactive top lip. If the concern is likely to be caused by other factors (small or worn teeth, partial dental disruption or enlarged gums) we may be able to recommend seeing a dentist or other medical professional.
To reduce the appearance of a gummy smile when a hyperactive top lip is the cause, we apply botulinum toxin injections. This product is safe to use for this concern, which is often described as a comfortable treatment that rarely causes any downtime.
Potential discomfort will be discussed during the consultation, and if you feel it necessary, you can request the use of a mild anaesthesia. The use of a small needle will help to ensure the procedure is as comfortable as it can be.

We will explain all potential side effects and risks, which could include: headaches, vomiting and flu-like symptoms. These effects are not most commonly experienced, however you may expect redness, swelling and minor bruising.
